Sir, With reference to "Plans to curb Whitehall ditched" (April 3), on the current efforts of the UK government to reduce red tape: I chuckled out loud when I read the line: "These measures include setting up two new committees to replace an existing committee on red tape."

Sir Humphrey would be proud to learn that his spirit lives on.
