Life Imitates Art...

Link

Short List

Songs which both Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan performed

1. A Fool Such As I
2. I'll Be Home For Christmas.

If there's another one I'll be annoyed as a Short List TM is only supposed to consist of two things with a tenuous connection. Three times is enemy action (c. Ian Fleming).

UPDATE: there appear to be at least a dozen songs which both of them recorded. Oops.

Next Short List: Foreign politicians who are/were married to English men.

Short List

Political leaders who like(d) to hold meetings in a tent.

1. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
2. Colonel Gaddafi.

And from history: Genghis Khan. Only all his people lived in tents, so I'm not sure if that counts.

Next list: Songs which both Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan performed.

Posted from an internet café in Scarborough.

The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Act

From The Metro:

When a senior drugs officer with Britain’s ‘FBI’ went missing, his colleagues were baffled...

Two ‘extensive searches’ of the offices failed to turn up anything and, 16 hours after he was last seen, the officer’s colleagues called his wife and told her she should report him missing to local police.

He was eventually found at 4am the next day by a security guard on his regular rounds, who noticed the toilet cubicle door had been shut for a ‘considerable time’.

The guard then called Soca officers who kicked down the door and found their colleague dead on the toilet, just a few metres from his desk in the London offices of the agency.

'Housing expert' reckons that Elvis will be found on Moon

According to last Saturday's Express Housing expert* John Wriglesworth said: “I do not believe we will have a price crash ... I think there is more chance of finding Elvis on the moon than house prices crashing over the next five years".

Go figure.

* What sort of qualifications do you need to count as a 'housing expert'?

Elvis lives! God exists!

Applying the rigourous intellectual standards of the BBC, Simon Clark brings us incontrovertible evidence for the above two contentions.

As is tradition on this 'blog, I'll do a quick run down on the organisations whose spokesmen are quoted in the BBC articles and how they are financed:

The Children's Society, charity reg. number 221124, 'only' gets a quarter of its total income from "central and local government fees and grants" (£9 million, page 34 of the accounts) and 'only' spends a third of its gross income (£13 million) on fundraising and admin costs (page 43).

The National Schools Partnership is a straightforward marketing consortium for "a wide range of quality, ethical businesses with whom we have developed tools to help enhance pupils' learning experience" (altho' they get bonus marks for 'whom'; 'pupils' instead of 'students' and for getting the apostrophe in the right place).

Dr Rowan Williams needs no introduction, f*** knows why the BBC or anybody care about his opinion any more.

And finally, The Institute of Child Health, London is run by University College London and the NHS so that's just a quango.
