Compulsive Viewing

On Channel 5, Superior Interiors with Kelly Hoppen.

I can take or leave the whole 'interior design' bit; what gives this series the added frisson are the occasional cutaway shots of Kelly in profile:

Saving The Planet with Gisele Bündchen

Apparently Gisele Bündchen is now going to Save The Planet, albeit in cartoon form. Jolly good, she can be this blog's new Sienna 'do as I say don't do as I do' Miller. Let's try Googling "Gisele Bündchen" + [name of a major world city] and see what comes up.

Ah right...

Fun Online Polls: Price Comparison Websites & Flat Chested Celebrities

Thanks to everybody who took part in last week's Fun Online Poll, results as follows:

Which is your favourite financial price comparison website?

Money Supermarket - 31%

Confused - 20%
U Switch - 14%
Compare The Market - 11%
Go Compare - 0%
Other, please specify - 23%

Suggestions for 'Other' included Google shopping, bookbrain and DVD Price Check.

I'm mildly relieved to see those results. The only two I've ever used for real are Money Supermarket (for car insurance) and U Switch (for changing gas and electric, about ten years ago) and I was perfectly happy with the outcome.

Sienna Miller's air-miles

From The Metro:

Sienna Miller is seen cosying up to her new man, an unknown British DJ George Baker... The pair were seen gazing into one another's eyes, sitting hand in hand, and even exchanging kisses as they enjoyed the Venus Williams vs Magdalena Rybarikova match at the US Open. Earlier this month* they were spotted during a romantic holiday in Ibiza.

* Last month, actually. So the poor lass has been doing her bit for Global Cool by staying on the ground for over three weeks!

Sienna Miller's non-essential flights

Continuing my occasional series, Global Cool ambassador Sienna Miller did her bit to "spread awareness about global warming" this week by popping over to Ibiza for a holiday with her new boyf.

Let's round off the working day with a nice little FakeCharity

This one was new to me: The Institute of Race Relations. Half their income is from The Big Lottery and the Heritage Lottery Fund (heck knows why they split it up like that) and the other half appears to be legit (see note 7, page 13 of their 2008 accounts).

I'm also rather disappointed to report that Global Cool have finally submitted their September 2007 accounts (after a year and a half) and that they are not a fakecharity at all, but are funded by Man Group plc. Ah well.

Shabbat shalom

Everybody's favourite globetrotter-cum-climate change activist Sienna Miller was mentioned on the front cover of today's London Lite, so I flicked to page nine to see where she'd flown this week. She stayed in London, apparently, to celebrate someth... Holy Cow! Look at the size of that nose!*
* I hope that Kelly Hoppen doesn't turn out to be Jewish, in which case this post might be taken the wrong way.

Carbon footprint of the week

I wouldn't really care - it's the fact that Sienna Miller is some sort of figurehead for Global Cool that irks. That and the fact that Global Cool are almost certainly a fakecharity, but although the Charities Commission website says that their 2007 accounts were submitted a year ago, they aren't online yet, so I can't prove that one way or another.

Anyway, here's the cutting from today's London Lite - Sienna has been on a day trip from London to LA and back for the second time in three weeks (click to enlarge):

Carbon footprint of the week

From The Evening Standard:

What with the Oscars, the Brits and now London Fashion Week, it's been a tough schedule for high octane eco warriors. Despite being named as one of the 10 greenest stars on the planet, Sienna Miller was in London on Wednesday night for the Coldplay gig, flew to Los Angeles and was snapped at a pre-Oscars party on Thursday night, before returning in time for her and her sister's twenty8twelve fashion show and party at Whisky Mist last night... something of a mammoth carbon footprint.

Miller recently bought a cottage in Gloucestershire and only last week she told an interviewer of her plans to grow all her own food and be "slowly self-sufficient"... Miller, who votes for the Green Party, has been commended for her work in raising awareness about global warming through the charity, Global Cool. When she became a Global Cool ambassador in 2007, she said: "I'm very excited about joining Global Cool and their campaign to tackle Global Warming. Climate Change is an issue that is going to affect us all unless we act now and I truly believe Global Cool's approach of encouraging individuals to reduce their energy use will go a long way to solving the problem."

A spokesman for Sienna, who of course emails me from LA, says " Obviously, due to the nature of Sienna's work, she is required to travel regularly. She tries to offset her carbon footprint wherever possible." Global Cool's user-friendly mantra is that "It's not about being perfect, it's about cutting down" which is helpfully pragmatic.
