"We choose to… do the other things, not because they are easy but because they are hard." (2)
Before. Well, just after I started and then remembered I hadn't done the before photo:
After. I made it from decking material, so hopefully reasonably water resistant. There is a diagonal plank on the back (from bottom hinge to opposite corner) to keep it square. Mrs W insisted on fitting the grille herself, which is why it was inside out and upside down:

This afternoon I have mostly...
... been replacing the rotten bits of wood on this bench with new ones. Took me four hours, it did:
The little lass and I made the executive decision to rebuild the table using alternative old/new or dark/light slats.

"Flying 200 miles* in a garden chair"
There was a video of this on the BBC yesterday, all good stuff, but the best bit** is in today's Metro:
A trusty BB gun and a blow pipe armed with steel darts took care of the buoyant balloons. 'I'd go to 30,000ft* if I didn't shoot a balloon down periodically,' Mr Couch added.
Any lesser mortal would have taken a pair of scissors or something.
Aptly-named Kent Couch, you rock!
* This is an Imperial 'blog.
** The BBC article has now been expanded to include this.
