Is that her face immediately after the episode with the cucumber?

Anon, I dunno, but the longer I stared at the photo in today's FT which inspired this, the more I thought that the poor woman has had a stroke (i.e. the illness, not a quick fumble with Sarkozy).

It has to be the stress :) and they thought they would enjoy all that power. It's energy sapping and not how I would want to spend my life.

I have noticed that people with excessive power to get real ugly with age. Brown was an absolute horror at the end.

S, I was famous once, for a day, it is HELL.

But as counter example to Brown, what about Clinton, he still looks young fresh and breezy?

Sometimes, a tiny part of me sees at least some of these insanely ambitious people as victims of our need for leaders, heroes and celebrities and the absurd demands we place on them.

Good portrait btw - with a whiff of sympathy?

Perhaps it's a European thing - think of Blair (well, actually, try not to think of him, I should have said, try looking at a recent photo (that's bad enough)).

"But as counter example to Brown, what about Clinton, he still looks young fresh and breezy?" But bad boy Bill never took his responsibilities seriously - his special topic was dereliction of duty.
