Its not just the EU though...
"The government has committed the UK to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by middle of this century."
Nice move Mr Ed Miliband. Not!
It's a big f***ing hoax.
I think not, climate research being my job, but the proposed "solutions" always seem to be remarkably left wing and/or rubbish.
knirirr
Here's something you won't see on the BBC - or is it a hoax?
... is it a hoax?
Having had a quick glance at it I have no reason to suspect that it is. Thanks for the link!
K, agreed, there are long term cycles in the weather/average temperature, all fascinating stuff I am sure.
I was more specifially referring to the 'man made...' variety.
U, the BBC gleefully showed the chart up to July 2008, of course ... it just got a bit embarrassing after that.

Ah, I see what you mean. I'm not really keen on this sort of nutter either.
'Climate change', 'Credit Crunch', 'knife crime', 'binge drinking', etc etc - all just political sound bites for politcal capital raising.
U, actually the BBC showed the chart up to August 2008.
Be that as it may, the enviroloonies will just point out that, yes, maybe the area is larger, but the ice is 40% thinner!. Ah ... that last report is from 1999, so presumably not much has happened since.

The BBC report you cite is a tissue of warmist cant laced with outrageous scare tactics. This doesn't surprise me but what really appals is the way the Conservatives have bought into the whole thing.
I cannot recall hearing an iota of doubt in the fraud expressed by any front-bench spokesman from any of the 3 main parties. My earlier citation of Greg Clark is a case in point. I'm surprised he didn't lay into Miliband for his lack of ambition in not aiming for a 100% cut-back in carbon emissions.
Just an aside - I notice that, as far as I'm aware, the BBC has ignored this article by Lomborg which basically says that even if global warming is occurring there's bugger all we can do about it even if we ruin ourselves trying.
U, the point about August was that was the point at which it started freezing over again. Rather rapidly.
As to this 60%, 80% nonsense, I suppose it is only a matter of time before some twat calls for 100%. And then, inevitably, 110%.
But 80% of what, anyway? Industrial emissions, presumably? And of all greenhouse gases, including water vapour, what infinitesimally small fraction is industrial?
Let's see what St John of Redwood's fag packet says, shall we? Ah ... right ...
It's cos you can now vote for Red Common Purpose or Blue Common Purpose.
Or purple common purpose.
At our local branch meeting, a UKIP MEP said our 'climate change' policy ought to be simplified a bit, something along the lines of "It's all complete bollocks"
Your blog has started to upbugger my browser.

And St John is right, but none of his colleagues on the benches in front of him say a damn thing about it.
