You don't actually believe that circumcision involves cutting off the tip of the penis do you? The very opposite happens. The clue is in the etymology =cutting around .

DBC, come off it. You try doing a better circumcision/crime play on words if it's so easy.

@MW No you come off it (ooh that's inyourendo missus!): this play on words, which you esteem so highly, only "works" with people who have hazy, naïve notions of what circumcision is.And you, like, for instance, usually complain when people are not absolutely dictionary perfect in their use of words!

DBC, I refer you to the Rabbi Tuckman scene in "Robin Hood: Men in tights". If Mel Brooks can make jokes along these lines then so can everybody else.

DBC, you baffle me. AFAICS, the extreme end of an uncircumcised penis, i.e. the "tip", is missing in a circumcised one, being formed from that piece of skin removed in the circumcision process. Surely you must realise this; I'm pretty certain you are not a nun.

I am now baffled as to how you can remove all the foreskin and not the tip as well.

I have sent two mild, humorous comments on this theme and you have not printed either of them. Why not?

DBC, I disagree on "mildly humorous". The orignal post was "mildly humorous" and you are trying to spoilt it.

What is your obsession with Jewish people? Most Sikhs, Americans, Muslims and many Africans are circumcised as a matter of course and they don't make any big deal out of it.

In any event, can you reply to my question: are only jewish people allowed to make jokes on the topic* or is this open to anybody who is circumcised?

* e.g. Did you hear about the rabbi who missed and got the sack?

The original post was hardly humorous: anybody who knows that circumcision is not cutting the tip off somebody's cock will not get the joke. The joke was spoilt to start with.
I don't have an obsession with Jewish people :you were the one who introduced Mel Brooks! The problem is that the laughter content of a joke depends not on its intrinsics but on the person telling the joke and the people who appear in it (People laugh at people falling over on banana skins more when they are rich and up themselves than if they are poor and oppressed-I think Orwell pointed this out. When Henry V finished the "Once more unto the breach" speech , the low born comic characters sit down and discuss it, decide its not for them and wander off in the other direction.A lot of Sh's comedy is the poor, puncturing pretension and pomposity .For this reason Jewish and minority comic characters get more laughs than ruling-class blowhards
Of course anybody is "allowed" to make any jokes they like but whether they get laughs or make people uncomfortable is entirely different.
As I said in the previous e-mail which was really not allowed to appear by you, I once attended an end-of-term entertainment devised by "disabled" students. They used the words cripples and raspberries throughout and much fun was had on the subject of incontinence. If the kids' carers had used the same material the kids would have been in tears. The kids doing it themselves found it liberating.Comic characters have to have the cheeky underdog persona.
God almighty, you are making fearfully heavy weather of all this. All I meant was that anybody who found tips off funny in the circumcision context must be a bit of a dick.
