"Remember British and American soldiers fought under one flag at D-Day, urges Cameron in fight to become 51st State"

From The Daily Mail:

David Cameron today recalled the heroism of British and US American soldiers who fought 'under one flag' as he appeals to the USA to admit the UK as the 51st state.

The Prime Minister used a key speech at the Republican Party convention in Richmond, VA, to highlight centuries of 'shared endeavour'. He singled out the sacrifice made by soldiers from across the UK on the beaches of Normandy in the D-Day landings - which took place 69 years ago yesterday.

Planning and practice for the landings took place all over Great Britain and British servicemen were among the first to land on Sword Beach. Mr Cameron also used a more modern example of the UK's credentials by praising the performance of UK athletes at last year's Olympic Games, pointing out that a combined USA-UK team would have won twice as many medals as their nearest rival, the People's Republic of China.
