Islam is not a religion: it's an inferiority complex.

Discuss.

UPDATE: according to the BBC News just now, Pastor Terry Jones has wimped out. He appeared to be under the impression that they'd cancelled their plans to build the Ground Zero Mosque and so wanted to be conciliatory about it. The BBC reporter then read a statement from the Islamists' PR agency saying that they had every intention of going ahead with the GZM. Go figure.

Actually, I believe it's a cult. It has all the elements of being a cult.

"The mind control, or brainwashing, exerted by cults often take the form of at least several of the following elements:

A totalitarian control over the lifestyle and time of its members - Many cults tend to dictate exactly what its followers should read, eat, how and with whom they should spend their time, and even what they should do in off hours. This totalitarian control is necessary for the leaders to indoctrinate the followers in everything they do, and is also an attempt to separate them from anything not associated with the cult. This is why cults often live together in groups.

A charismatic, self-appointed leader with complete authority - Cult members are taught not to question the teachings, practices, or ideas of the leader.

They are doing it to offend. If they really gave a shit about what people thought, they'd move it.

Shame he's chickened out!

S, I'm not sure it is a cult at all. I genuinely believe it's an inferiority complex.

And yes it is a shame he chickened out - after the Mohammed cartoons thingy, there were protests all over the Islamic world and they killed dozens of each other and burned loads of Western flags. Did we give a shit? Nope. Why would I care if somebody in a faraway country about which I know little and care less burns a piece of coloured cloth?

He hasn't chickened out - it seems to be back on, he's now claiming he was 'lied to' about the Victory Mosque being moved!

JM, per R4 this morning, he'd still cancelled, but we'll see.

This report notes that "Foreign Secretary William Hague was among those who condemned Mr Jones, describing his plan as 'selfish and provocative in the extreme'." Indeed it is. Mr Jones wants all the glory to himself.

Accordingly, I propose that, in the same way that beacons were burned as a warning that the Armada was on its way to invade England, beacons fuelled by Korans be lit as a warning of Muslim intentions to extend the Umma to include all the people of the UK. I consider that those of all religions and none would consider this an appropriate gesture in the circumstances.

As a footnote, I should add that negotiations with the Saudi Ambassador concerning the construction of a "Victory Church" or "Christian Cultural Centre" adjoining the Kaaba in Mecca - paid for from funds temporarily allocated to the DfID - have so far failed to bear fruit.

U, I thought you'd shut down DfID? Anways, you are cordially invited to open the proceedings (see subsequent post).
