A series of bizarre protests from residents has left 1,000 “Boris bikes” stranded in an underground garage and unable to be used by cyclists... One group of residents claimed it would be a “violation of their human rights” if a docking station were to be built outside their mansion block in Bloomsbury.
Another complaint centred on the fact that the bikes would be positioned under a tree and would be covered in bird-droppings. Many residents have expressed concern that the bikes would be used by drunken revellers indulging in “horseplay”. One Kensington resident said anybody wanting to cycle “will already own a bike”.

I've never actually seen horseplay. How does the equine aspect come into it?
I've always been amazed that clamping is classed as criminal extortion in Scotland but as a landowner's sacred right in England.

It also shows that those against a proposed course of action need to 'saddle up' and concentrate their opposition, thus putting a 'brake' on proposals with which they disagree. By thinking of an acronym for their campaign they also put a 'handle' on the 'bar' which they wish to put in the way of a proposed developement.
In conclusion I suppose it could be said that they had derail(leur)ed the whole exercise!

If you want to stop people cycling you have to make it easier to take the tube.
