No sense of perspective

It appears that cancelling concerts in Israel is the new fad among self-respecting pop stars.

OK, I am the first to admit that the way the Israelis stormed that ship was a bit of a PR-disaster, but these same pop stars are happy to play in other countries who have been involved in all sorts of human rights abuses and unnecessary deaths, at home or abroad (I'd include any country involved in the occupation of Iraq or Afgh, for a start; as well as most Arab or African countries, PR China etc etc).

Fun statistic of the day: Gaza Strip - population in 1950 = 240,000; population in 2010 = approx. 1,400,000.

And they all claim the Israelis stole their farm too ;-)

I seriously doubt the Pixies, Klaxons or Gorillaz will ever play in PRC or Arab countries, for the reasons you cite. The point is, Israel is a country which is historically perceived as 'not evil, unlike PRC, Saudi and UAE', and its perception is gradually shifting to 'evil, like PRC, Saudi and UAE'.

The 'countries occupying Iraq and Afgh' point is more interesting and hasn't been dealt with enough in the US/UK media: beams, motes, etc.

Precisely - utter hypocrites but what did we expect? Remind me never to buy their music.

Not amongst people who will ever matter, though.

I've got enough faith in capitalism to say that it doesn't matter.

These pop-stars weren't going to Israel out of the goodness of their hearts. They were doing it for the cash.

No concert = no cash.

One day, a pop star will say "hey, there's money to be made in them thar hills" and will go on to be more popular in Israel, and hence richer.

Job done. Stupid posing pop star who refuses to do look after their fans makes less money than pop star who doesn't refuse.
