That Barnardo's story continues

Yesterday, Obnoxio reckoned that Barnado's phrase "sophisticated networks of older men ... grooming hundreds of British children to be trafficked within the UK for sexual exploitation" was in fact a euphemism for "sophisticated networks of Asian men ...".

Which seems quite likely to me, and makes it even more ironic that on the day after the big Barnado's money grabbing exercise, the government's Forced Marriage Unit is cutting off the modest funding to the very people who might, just possibly, be able to make a bit of a difference.

OK, I think Obo meant Asian men abusing white children, forced marriage is about Asian families abusing Asian children, but you get the general idea.

Forced marriage is about getting spousal British citizenship for the bride's 2nd cousin back home. End spousal citizenship & there is no profit in it.

maybe that; but it happens all the time within the subcontinent amongst non-migrating families

it's to do with keeping assets (dowry etc) within the extended family

ND, what people do in their own country is of no concern to us; what they do here is. This whole marrying your cousin malarkey just makes it worse, so I'd go with what NC says, and reintroduce the "main purpose" rule.

i'm not disagreeing, merely offering what i understand to be the underlying explanation
