You have to ask ... (part 94)

Steven_L mentions the "Committee on Climate Change" and asks Who are they?.

*sigh*

The Committee on Climate Change "is an independent body established under the Climate Change Act to advise the UK Government on setting carbon budgets, and to report to Parliament on the progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions."

Not to be confused with the Sustainable Development Commission of course, which "is the Government's independent adviser on sustainable development, reporting to the Prime Minister, the First Ministers of Scotland and Wales and the First Minister and Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland. Through advocacy, advice and appraisal, we help put sustainable development at the heart of Government policy."

*/sigh*

I hope that clears things up.

You only have to read the biography of the chairman of the SDC, Will Day, and others of the good and great here to see how "independent" the SDC is. The SDC is only "independent" of the government in the sense that its members are not actually employees of the Ministry of Silly Walks.

You will also see what an ornament Mr Day is to the collective of those leading useless but highly personally rewarding lives (at the expense of taxpayers and the various generous mugs who donate to the charities with which he is or has been associated). FWIW, you can rest assured that Mr Day's career will continue just as successfully under the Conservatives were they to form the next administration. After all, there is little appetite at Conservative HQ for ridding British political life of the many expensive bien pensants cockroaches with full membership of the political class who infest the British body politic.

BTW I cannot connect with the the fake charity website at http://fakecharities.org/ . Is this personal to me or has the website been taken down?

U, the Tories are busily setting up their own fakecharities, only they are funded by industry lobby groups. As to that website, it was a good idea but seems to have fizzled out.

I guess that does clear that one up then. I'm still puzzled as to why all car speedometers seem to have been callibrated wrongly though.
