The joke wears thinner as hole gets deeper

Here's a snapshot of the progress* that the fox/badger/muntjac deer/mole** has made since last Saturday:

* The hole/trench is over a foot across and extends about eighteen inches underground (beneath the plank).

** Delete according to taste/prejudice/phobia.

You've got an anaconda in your garden.

nothing for it, Mark, you must camp out on the veranda tonight with shotgun in hand

A shotgun ? that's a bit severe.

What you need is an 'exclusion zone'. Then if they come back, you can get your local PCSO to ask them, if they would kindly move on, then if that doesn't work you can get an ASBO served on them, that will really show them it's serious.

That is unless they are pikey foxes, badgers or moles, then your screwed.
Muntjac Deer are I believe considered an ethnic minority and if you take any action against them, the local council diversity officer, will come to tell you, that it is their culture to dig up your garden and you should be more tolerant

It must be in the weather even my foxes who have cubs(I have heard the strangling cries)have dug the hole in my garden deeper last night this morning at some godforsaken hour

I think its the cubs not the parents somehow though it may be both.

But this confirms that it is a fox I have a fence that a badger would find it hard to get under

Mark, it maybe the badgers trying to escape from the garden next door, ably assisted by the mole - "Take me with you. I can see clearly."

I'll get my coat.

"Take me with you. I can see clearly."

That's all he needs. Fifty of them coming under the fence.

Some kind of crossbow trap perhaps? Or a decent sized rat trap. That ought to do the trick.

Agree with Henry, it's a fox trying to escape the heat.

You can get a little desk-type fan for them, though where they'd plug it in, heaven knows... ;)

HNL, maybe it is the weather, which leads me on to a Very Happy Thought - when it rains the hole will flood with water, albeit it will drain again very quickly.

JM, I'm sure there's a socket for a fan in the greenhouse, which is only a few feet away.

Can you construct a trap....Bear Grylls has a few good ideas for them.

Then you can find out what the culprit is

There is n't a hen house on the other side of a nearby fence is there?Foxes will dig into hen runs from some distance when they have cubs to feed.
BTW the small bits of blue plastic in the hole on my allotment have disappeared --and been replaced by yellow plastic discs.Clearly there is cult involved so I am keeping well clear.

Sorry about the hole but I just really like your garden and the fence is too high..

Henry's comment "I have a fence that a badger would find it hard to get under" - I hope he's right that it is a fox but I doubt a fence will keep out a badger unless the base is 6 feet underground and is electrified that may keep out the little b******ds.
