HM Revenue & Customs joke

A worried client rang me the other day, he said he'd received a final demand for last year's tax bill, which he still hadn't paid.

I told him just to ignore it and not bother paying, my logic being, if it's a final demand, they won't be sending out any further demands after that.

When I was around 20 years old I started a business and duly got my tax demand, which I thought was outrageous, no one explained that I could not keep all the money.

So I called up the Tax office, and asked to speak to guy who sent the letter, the director of the Inland Revenue himself.
I even left my number for him to give me a ring back, which a laughing clerk took down and promised to do her best.

I have said the same thing to the IR - they didn't used to laugh. They do now. Mind you it's probably hysteria.
