My interest in piracy was reawakened after watching "Pirates of the Caribbean" on telly over the Xmas holidays - it now appears that the do nothing strategy (that was second choice in my Fun Online Poll) has won the day; said pirates have now caved in and accepted a $3 million ransom, allegedly, significantly down on the original ransom of $25 million. Allegedly.
I do hope that the crew get home safe and well, except for the one who gave away the ship's position. Allegedly.

Dunno if you have seen Clint Eastwood's excellent"Bronco Billy" but they fail to hold up a modern train because it is going too fast and they can't catch up with it on horseback.Same problem with holding up enormous oil tanker: its going at a fair rate, will take miles to stop and you still need somebody to drop a rope ladder down the side to get on board, when you would be extremely vulnerable (one at a time, holding a light machine gun in your teeth). The whole piracy on high seas scenario looks highly suspect.
JB, d'you not think that they might have, er, faked their own death?
That's what Captain Jack Sparrow would have done.
One geezer has been washed up dead with $150,000 in a plastic bag on him. Given the total ransom money ,could n't this indicate that the ransom money has been split 30 ways i.e. including some or all of the crew who were in on it?
DBC, split twenty ways, surely?
Only I have no idea how many pirates there were. For the others, sacrifing one of them to throw the authorities off the scent is probably a good investment of $150,000.
