There's another article on the £6 million that they intend to waste on Regional Alcohol Managers in The Metro, which ends with the typical journalistic flourish:
The move was welcomed by charity Alcohol Concern.
*sigh*
Alcohol Concern is not a charity. It is itself a quango, which received just under £1 million from various other government departments and quangoes in the last two financial years (see page 30 and Note 3 to the 2007 accounts), i.e. about 80% or 90% of their income, which they then splurge on Funding & Publicity; Information & Communications; Services Development and Governance.
It's hardly a surprise that they "welcome" the thought of being able to get their snouts into a trough that's six times as large.
*/sigh*
