That's a rather unfortunate headline really ("Naked pedestrians will see drivers slow", springs to mind), but this will raise the spirits of anti-traffic lights etc campaigners across the country.
It's only if towns are brave enough to actually do it that will we see whether the strategy 'works' or not, and hence that we can win the argument.
And it will and we will, of course.
Was it all worth it?

It's another small step forward. Good to see the link to Martin Cassini's campaign website Mark.
It was tried in Britain once before (in a village down Wessex way if I remember) and did work. But they had to put the signs back because the council's lawyers were scared someone would sue if there were an accident.
Seeing as how I am an ex highway engineer I have actually had a think about this, and yes, I reckon that removing a lot of traffic lights would actually speed up traffic and slow down drivers (the two are related) and make pedestrians safer. It's the old making people think and act responsibly bit. Holland has tried shared spaces and it works well.
L, if you any expertise or authority to spare, you might like to get in touch with the FiT Roads people. I'm sure they'd be delighted to hear from you.
