Are you still trying to reason with Neil? Good luck.
Mark, kind of off topic, but related. Given your evil genius in tax affairs. What taxes are charged in a gallon of fuel?
Is it correct that there is excise duty and then VAT on top of the gross?
(UK)
Yup. Fuel duty on unleaded petrol is 53.65 pence per litre on top of basic cost, then there's VAT at 17.5% on the whole lot.
This is not to be confused with taxes on North Sea oil and gas companies, the most important of which is the 20% corporation tax surcharge, i.e. they pay 48% corporation tax.
