In an interview with Welt Am Sonntag, Wolfgang Schäuble (German Finance Minister) has confirmed that he made this speech hinting that the UK would be punished if it voted Brexit purely because George Osborne asked him to, and that Osborne wrote half his speech for him.
So that's one conspiracy theory on a sounder footing, I wonder whether all George's other mates will 'fess up.

Surely George Osborne has committed some crime here, treason perhaps?
This may explain his hiding in the shadows since the result was announced last week. Worried we were going to fine out the extent of his treachery.
Instead of the Fifeshire Feartie (Gay Gordon) we now have the Tatton Treacher. Like all vermin it should be eliminated upon sight. Although i this case a long lingering, painful death might be more appropriate than a quick bullet between the eyes.
Interesting. Schäuble comes across as more open and pragmatic than any of our lot could ever be.
BB, it does sound a bit treacherous. But that's only punished in war time.
AKH, he is. His main concern is selling us cars. Not much more to it than that.
Zee Chermans really should stop their habit of obeying orders. They should be more like Brits: stick two fingers up at anyone issuing orders (and stick two fingers up at experts).
