Nobel Prize winning physicist doesn't understand numbers: shock

What a pompous f***ing twat:

Surrounded by his three computer screens, his whiteboard plastered with complex equations, Professor Geim sips his tea from a frog mug... "I have no plans to move, but if George Osborne's axe is as sharp as the rumours tell, we will all be considering moving to places like Singapore where they spend 3 per cent of their GDP on research – not a paltry 1.5 per cent which is going to be cut," he said.

Singapore GDP $240 billion x 3% = $7 billion.

United Kingdom GDP $2,139 billion x 1.5% = $32 billion.

Most public statements by scientists can be accurately paraphrased as "Gimme!".

And if his board was covered in 'complex equations' I bet they were put there specially for the interview. It's a shame to hear an eminent scientist talking like a low-grade civil servant.

@Cingram,
'eminent scientist', 'low-grade civil servant'

I think you left out the phrase 'but I repeat myself' at the end there?

Slight discrepancy.

But since their per capita GNP is about 50% above ours that means they spend 3 times as much per head, which is the more relevent figure. I would also suspect that while a large proportion of government spending here is among the trillions spent on promoting global warming alarmism (see Professor Lewis' letter on how that is how the alarmist scam has been produced) the Singapore government, being into competence rather than parasitism, has been spending more usefully.

If Professor Geim is not a "climate scientist" I doubt he will get much government funding.
