All seems strangely plausible to me.

The original Novichok/Skripal story was most bizarre and full of inconsistencies, giving rise to lots of conspiracy theories. What we were officially told might well be true, it just doesn't feel true.

The second time round seems just as bizarre, but somehow perfectly plausible to me, even down to the perfume spray bottle and unnamed members of the 'security services' telling unnamed journalists that they have now miraculously identified the people responsible for the Skripal event.

Who picks up a bottle of perfume that they found in a public place and sprays themself with it?

It's much more likely that they were a pair of OD'ing druggies and EVERYTHING else is made up. I mean we know it isn't Novichok, because, if it were, all five "victims" would have been dead within minutes.

JM, the sort of person who picks up cigarette butts to recycle the tobacco.

B, people overdose all the time, they don't blame them all on Novichok.

I'm deeply grateful to the police for informing us that two instances of a very rare and hard to manufacture poison found within a few miles of each other in Wiltshire are "probably connected". I'd never have worked that out for myself....:-)

Well of course not, only when it's politically convenient. Remember, this incident happend just when the report on "extraordinary rendition" had been published which showed the government (well, not this government, but the other Tory government) in a bad light.

How far is Porton Down laboratory from Salisbury?

RM, tee hee.

B, I love a conspiracy theory as much as the next man, but don't drag day to day politics into this. If the UK government had to fabricate a story to cover up each latest fuck up/revelation of earlier fuck up, they would be fabricating at least one every day.

I get that the assassins may have hidden the poison in a perfume bottle, rather than something marked with a skull and cross bones. I would have thought it unlikely that they would throw something like that away. Let's say that they did, and that this couple, who pick up cigarette butts, searched a bin and found it. Let's also say that she sprayed it on her wrists. But then how did it get on the man in sufficient dose? His brother told The Sunday Telegraph that the bottle splintered in his hand. Surely that would have been an ENORMOUS dose, let alone cleaning it up from the floor of his house. Hang on. The police say that they found a small bottle in his property. If it was shattered, why would he keep it? I suppose the brother could be unreliable and this is just nonsense.

Their batting average is not quite up to that yet, but they are doing pretty well. Anyhow, as the "Fiddler on the Bench" operetta has proved, one fabricated story can be stretched to cover several "bad news" items.
