The Daily Mash on top form

GOVERNMENT plans for more rented housing have been welcomed by renters who like paying other people’s mortgages.

The D Mash website isn't working. Everyone is clearly following your link and broken it... (At least it doesn't work for me and the DM website says it's broken).

Some friends of mine sold their 3 bedroomed semi (with no garden) in London and rented a 4 bedroomed house with a large garden in Herefordshire. Their pensions pay the rent, council tax and utilities while their capital affords them a lifestyle they otherwise couldn't't afford. One said, "If the boiler breaks down, I don't have to pay a British Gas cowboy £3,000 to fix it. Someone else does. If a frozen block of shot and per falls from a passing plane and goes through the roof, someone else pays for the repair. I don't have to pay buildings insurance, someone else does. When we want to downsize, we don't have to go through the hassle of selling the property and paying legal and associated fees. Someone else does. And if they pop their clogs, their kids don't have to go through the hassle of selling their property and paying estate agents and legal fees and various taxes."
Renting doesn't suit everyone, but it seems to suit them.

PS, yes, renting can be a good deal if you get a good landlord who looks after their property, but of course, that is not the popular image of the landlord. The popular image is Nicholas van Hoogstraten.
