Stretched Police Resources #2

From the BBC

Police are investigating an allegation of hate crime against world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

Greater Manchester Police received a call earlier after comments made about homosexuality on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme.

"We take every allegation of hate crime extremely seriously and we will be attending the victim's address to take a statement," a GMP spokeswoman said.

Some nobhead makes some dumb, harmless remarks about homosexuals (not a crime) and they're all over it, but they still haven't found my laptop that got nicked near Wythenshawe from a decade ago (crime).

The Police don't do crime. They arrest drivers. They harass anyone they can. They pick up the easy "criminal". They are not about detecting crime, despite what the BBC and Dixon of Dock Green tell us. It's mostly about sitting around drinking tea in those massive new police stations that have been built and concocting their stories so that any criminal trial is bound to fail. Just my views based on my spell of jury service.

Ahem "knobhead".

I thought it was "dickhead" - the guy saying it was an authority on the subject

Mark,

I always assumed that "nob" as in slang for penis was without a k and therefore nobhead is correct. I could ask that woman from Countdown, as she's on Twitter.

Graeme,
Yes, maybe not a good choice of word. I just mean that I think his ideas are a bit stupid, but that at least outside the ring, he's pretty harmless.

I mean, look, this is in the bible. Leviticus says that homosexuals should be put to death. That's the book of the official religion of this country (such as crowning our monarchs or giving seats in the Lords). Why isn't the Archbishop of Canterbury being investigated?

T.S The thing is Leviticus is contextualised by the Church. ie; It's superceded by the New Testament and everyone knows Jesus was a bit of a swinger... Difficult to say whether TF's comments really do no harm. Because of the exposure they get they arguably contribute to the feelings among a diminishing minority that homosexuality is itself a crime against god or nature or some other such bollox.

I'm thrilled to hear the police take hate crime "extremely seriously". Why then did they do nothing about Ken Livingstone's anti-Semitic remarks prior to the last London Mayoral election, which I reported to the police?

paulc,

if it's been superceded, why not remove it? If it's not the word of god, what's it doing there?
