My top twelve blogs

I've had to transfer one 'blog from "Top Twelve" to "Dormant and occasional".

Whoever is the first to nominate a 'blog in the comments, be it their own or somebody else's, gets the spare place in the "Top Twelve".

When you think about the title... My Top twelve Blogs.... perhaps maybe you should still leave his blog in your top 12 rather than passing it to dormant. If the past content was good enough to be in the top 12, the fact that it will not be updated anymore, shouldn't change the fact that Capt Ranty must still be worthy of being in anyone's top 12.

I might not have followed [or agreed] with all that he said.... but on a simple objective test....I vote Capt Ranty for the vacant spot.

I thought I was going to be the first to comment, and I am going to write the same. There is something called "respect for the dead". With regret I think that you have acted with unnecessary haste here, and I would not mind if you reflected and deleted this entry and the comments - if ageing man agrees, likewise.

Further comment: I wouldn't mind if this post [ie plus my comment was deleted] but I would add, that I say neither this.... nor was my first comment..... was intended to read as criticism.

Nor did I make my suggestion out of some vicarious grief for stranger. I didn't know Colin Grainger, and whilst I read a number of his posts, he was a bit ranty at times. I even commented in a particular post in my own blog. CR letter to David Cameron was very sharp written with true acerbic wit.

But very recently I did my own post where I touched on the subject of bloggers who suddenly stop blogging [for whatever reason] and I think perhaps Captain Ranty is not dormant.... he is merely paused ..... but for sure definitely worthy of any top 12.

So Man with a Polish wife..... that was a very long winded way of saying I agree with you....

AM, if a blog is not being updated any more then by definition it is dormant, that doesn't make it a bad blog, it makes it a dormant blog. A lot of those dormant ones I really liked.

MWAP, of course there is such a thing as respect for the dead but you've got to move on. One of the more regular contributors here (Bob E) died suddenly and I was close to tears for a fortnight. That didn't stop me removing his name from the banner at the top.

I always like reading mrishmael- even if he has recently got a bit dark and socialist... Must be the 5 month storm they have been having up in Orkney- which coupled with the almost total darkness most of winter would be enough to put the most cheery of us in to depression I suspect!

TBH, duly updated.
