Daily Mail on sparkling form

From The Daily Mail:

The two Charlie Hebdo gunmen have been killed in a firefight with French special forces, according to reports in France.

The hostage, named as Michel Catalano, who taken by Said Kouachi, 34, and his brother, Cherif, 33, is believed to have been rescued alive...

Mr Catalano's family were gathered for support at their detached home in the village of Othis as the siege came to an end in Dammartin-en-Goele.

Police were last night stationed outside the property, which has a private swimming pool.

Wins all the way for the French Establishment:
Win: more acceptance of surveillance,
Win: more support for counter-terrorism spending,
Win: an enemy for the people that isn't the government,
Win: an annoying satirical magazine obliterated,
Win: the people's minds taken off the dire mess the government have got them into,
Win: the two gunmen responsible dead so that no-one will ever know the background to the murders.

Makes it hard not to think that the French secret services weren't behind the whole thing.

Maybe Mark W was drawing attention the trivia the article drew attention to? The house was a DETACHED house? Wow! It has a swimming pool? Wow!
I don't agree with Bayard, although it is always possible, of course.
The deaths of the murderers changes nothing. The task now is to find out what person(s) encouraged them and supplied them and lock them up for thirty years in the most unpleasant location possible.

Really Bayard, jump in with the false flag conspiracies right away? Your view of islamist fundamentalist terror as nothing out of the ordinary is taken to another level.

Dear Mr Wadsworth

But how much does it cost?

B, no, that sort of logic applied to the Cold War. This is genuine terrorism.

J, exactly.

L, presumably, yes. Even though they did a crime/house price article a while ago where several of the commentators pointed at that the house price was irrelevant and emphasising it was a bit tasteless and then they remove the house price again.

DP, yes, that is the question. Does the article mention it? I couldn't find it.

Kj, my comment was prompted by listening to the wife of one of the victims. It was she that raised the "false flag" theory and I thought that it certainly could be seen that way.
My whole life has been lived to a background of terrorism, first Irish and now Muslim, so, in a way, this new attack is nothing out of the ordinary.

M, although it doesn't have to be true, it could be true. I was just applying "cui bono". After all, the attack is a bit of an own goal for the Islamist cause.

I agree with Bayard. As he said earlier ,the whole thing is reminiscent of London in Orwell's 1984 where "steamers" land on Londoners to keep them loyal to a system that deliberately prevents full production and Plenty.
