The Business of Musicals (In Venn Diagrams)

From Time

Holler if Ya Hear Me, the Broadway musical inspired by the music and lyrics of the late rapper Tupac Shakur, will close July 20 following weeks of poor ticket sales and mixed reviews.

This can be explained with the following venn diagrams:-

There's also this one that applies to the Spider-man musical:-

So very true.

Reminds of the recent TV programme that covered the 10 biggest money-making songs of all time. About 7 of them are heart-rending ballads (like 'Yesterday' and 'Every Breath You Take'). When the presenter asked why a talking head said it is because of women. To make a lot of money out of a song it has to appeal to women.

Which in turn reminds me that two of the songs that stayed at the top of the charts the longest - Wet Wet Wet Love is all Around, and Everything I Do by Bryan Adams - are clearly female orientated songs.

Excellent. Now do "Rocky Horror Picture Show".

@ RT, yes. I've seen that, Thoroughly depressing, there were seven heartbreak songs and three Xmas songs IIRC. Apart from the three Xmas songs they were all awful. "EVery breath you take" is probably the second worst Police song.

TS - have you ever been to a live performance of TRHS?

Lola,

Nope. Never really appealed to me, although I quite like the movie.
