Short List

I haven't done one of these for ages.

Today's Short List is "Pop/rock songs with a World War II theme"

To get the ball rolling, I can think of:

OMD: "Enola Gay"
Pere Ubu: "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo"
Motörhead: "Bomber"
Paul McCartney: "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey"

Not sure if it counts, but Hazel O'Connor did "D-Days".

This one doesn't (WW1), but what the hell - it's a classic.

There's also a Sex Pistols song that never made it to an official release involving Belsen.

Thanks everybody, this is turning out to be a rather long list.

Prog, JohnM, they all count. If you think they count, they count.

JM, do you mean "Belsen was a gas?" or "Einmal was Belsen vortrefflich"? That was on most versions of "The Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle".

DBC, I think there are a few songs on The Wall which are WW2-themed (Bring the boys back home, Vera).

I also remembered:

Ted Nugent: Stormtroopin'
Boomtown Rats: I never loved Eva Braun

If you're going to include pre- rock and roll era songs like the mighty "Stalin wasn't stalling" (Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet 1943), I would nominate the wartime hit "Rum and Coca Cola"(Andrews Sisters and others) for its jolly depiction of the deleterious effects(to morals) of the arrival of GI's.

Didn't know that. I guess I assumed Malcolm had some limits!
