"We appreciate it is suddenly 'the fashionable thing to do' but please stop

referring yourselves to us for investigation by us on the grounds that you haven't done anything wrong but are about to appear in a TV programme which will show you doing nothing wrong" the authorities and officers of the Houses of Lords and Commons urge MPs and Peers.

In a separate move various members of the Coalition Government promised tonight that there would be legislation on the statute book covering new arrangements for "not doing wrong" before the next election unless of course it was shelved again once the present fad for self-referral for having done nothing wrong faded, or some other matter displaced it "headline-wise".
