Always good for some free style argy-bargy

Discussing the results of  "a poll" ... Coldplay album voted favourite

By people who listen to Radio 2 it would appear ...  here's their Top Ten Favourite Albums...

Top 10 albums voted by Radio 2 listeners were:

1. Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002)
2. Keane - Hopes and Fears (2004)
3. Duran Duran - Rio (1982)
4. Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973)
5. Dido - No Angel (1999)
6. The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers (1971)
7. The Pet Shop Boys - Actually (1987)
8. The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)
9. U2 - The Joshua Tree (1987)
10. Queen - A Night At The Opera (1975)
the full 100
Now what surprised me, given how frequently "it" seemed to be vying with SPLHCB** for Top Billing in "Best Album" polls in the past, when I assumed it was clocking up votes from oldies, crinklies and wrinklies of a similar generation to those citing  SPLHCB as "the best" is that "Pet Sounds"** doesn't even make the Top 30 in this poll, coming in at Number 33.

**Update/Addendum
I've always preferred Revolver to SPLHCB and Surf's Up to Pet Sounds, but then I admit I am regarded as a little odd and twisted - the first LP I purchased was "Safe as Milk" by Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band and I can well remember the look of disbelief on the Pater's fizzog when he heard that ....

Emili Sande at 82 really? Anyone ever heard of her prior to last years Sports Day.

Also surprised at Cee Lo Green sneaking in there, wonder if votes were for the radio version of 'Forget You' and had never listened to the album

Yes, good old Beefheart. I could only afford the Marble Arch version which was mono and missing a couple of tracks.
The problem with these lists is that they choose the best selling albums because that's what people know. Often the previous album was the really good one, then the next one charted and became well known.
The same happens with serials on TV, the BBC always used to repeat series 2 and 3 of progs like Monty Python on the basis that series 1 didn't have enough listeners - of course not because word didn't getaround until series 2.

Albums 4 and 5 are OK and album 6 is pretty good. They are the only three from that list which I own and listen to. The rest of that list is just yer average awful English self-righteous crap. Was this a special poll just for English/British artists?

MW - Radio 2 compiled and published a list of "the 100 most played albums on Radio 2" and asked listeners to vote for "their favourite".- It was, as they say, a bit of a fix, and as they never actually play "whole albums" but only "tracks" including of course "singles" taken from albums means it was a double fix. So what we really end up with is "the 100 most played tracks ranked in the preference order of those listeners who could be bothered to vote in the poll classified according to the albums from which the 100 most played tracks is taken"

Bob, thanks for explanation. So the poll is more or less meaningless.
