Diane Abbott outlines plan to curb fast food shops

From the Guardian,

Local authorities should be given stronger powers to ban the spread of fried chicken shops and other fast food outlets, and end the sale of cheap alcohol from corner shops, especially near overweight black Labour MPs, according to proposals put forward by Diane Abbott, the shadow public health minister.

In a wide-ranging interview, she also calls for clearer measures to prevent black MPs that don't declare their expenses from being shaped by materialism. Abbott, one of the Labour party's most senior leftwing figures, argues that the left has to recognise that public health issues, including obesity and alcoholism, often have their roots in family breakdown, and so as a divorced woman, the government needs to keep the pies away from her.
Discussing the need to tackle obesity and alcoholism, she said: "I am looking at planning legislation to make it easier for local authorities to ban not just McDonald's, but those chicken and chip shops that cluster around my house. I certainly think as part of Labour's policy review we should make it easier for local authorities to use public health criteria in planning and to stop the proliferation of chicken and chip shops. For me, fast food is not a treat but a dietary staple."

And when she talked about abandoning terrain I definitely thought of paté.

Tee hee.

"and end the sale of cheap alcohol from corner shops, especially near overweight black Labour MPs"?

Shouldn't that read:

"and end the sale of cheap alcohol from corner shops, especially near overweight black Labour MPs or former Lib Dem leaders"?

One can be sure that Ms Abbott will not be retiring to a diet of just rice and peas, like so many of her constituients are condemned too; no it'll be full speed ahead on stuffing down the chocolate logs and turn the heating up full blast.
Fecking working class traitor.

I'm amazed politicians have no interest in whether their statements make any sense, and seemingly no interest in the world around them. When she sees photographs of Tom Daly and Ashley Cole eating burgers, or reads that Jessica Ennis was going to a chip shop but was too embarrassed to go in, does it not arouse her curiosity? Are people whose bodies make them millions, who have the best nutritionists in the world advising them, likely to live off bad food. Does she not ask herself why thousand of athletes were frequenting the Olympic Park McDonalds? Why every footballer says his favourite food is Nandos? It's sugar that makes you fat - not fat, not burgers and not chicken. She should try laying off the cakes and biscuits for three months.

Surely it can't have escaped her notice just which demographic it is that chows down on fried chicken when school gives out?

Yep - looking at her, methinks she's trying to save herself from herself.

BB, actually the recipe is rice and red kidney beans. Heck knows why they call it peas.

JB: "It's sugar that makes you fat - not fat" Nope. Being fat makes you fat, it's genetic. I come from a long line of people who have always eaten what they wanted and we are or were all slim to the point of being skinny.

L, don't change the topic.

JM, it was a spoof article.

JH, nope she's trying to save herself from us, that's what she pays herself for.

A real National socialist she is, she would have done well in 1930's Germany, apart from being black, of course, but her heart's in the right place.

MW - I will change the Topic. I can't eat them as they contain nuts.

Did you really have to run her photo, Mark?

B, agreed.

L, tee hee (do they?)

JH, yes, spiteful but fun.

Sometimes appearances are not deceptive then.
