Norwegian gun nut infuriated by mediocre caricature

Not a nut according to the second team of shrinks. Judges have turned it into a political trial.

IH, whether he's nuts or not, he's a mass murderer, he killed 77 people, that's what is really distressing, that and the fact that the Norwegian cops didn't retaliate quick enough. AFAIACS this has about as much to do with politics as e.g. The Yorkshire Ripper.

He's a freedom fighter in the same line as Che...

vive la Norway Revolution!

I'm even thinking about getting a T-Shirt of him, with "my other t-shirt is Che" on it.

Wonder if the left will get the idea?

MW - Try looking up the Norwegian news. The left are using the trial as a stick to beat the right. That's why they leaned on the judges to appoint new shrinks.

I'm with Mark on this one: the fact he killed 77 people, most of them face-to-face with his guns, and teenagers to boot, is the most distressing and awful angle.

Left/right should be immaterial. Except he claims he is for the extreme right in northern Europe; the pure Norwegian culture supremacists. Like the Flanders Lion in Belgium (for Walloons), and the Golden Dawn in Greece (for pure Greeks).

This is where extreme racism - and yes it does exist - leads.

...? It was within the rights of the lawyers on either side to demand a new evaluation, and the right of the judge to decide to order one, the defendant was thrilled about it. But please do provide any news stories that implies this is a left against "the right" conspiracy. (I don't even know what right you are referring to, is it the ultra-nationalist fascist right, or the actual political right?)

Except for a few minor incidents, most factions (as far as there actually exists any significant factions on either side in the Norwegian political landscape) has been polite enough not to use this politically. It's all fine and dandy watching out for politics mixing up the justice system, but playing into the deck of cards dealt by retards like Brevik and implying that the evil left is at it again without any evidence is pretty disturbing if you ask me.

Kj, thanks for reporting from the coal face in Norway.

Here in England, the trial is being reported purely in political terms - they don't seem to consider it to be a criminal trial at all. The lefties are having a field day whining about how nasty we are to immigrants and so on. They cheerfully ignore the fact that he murdered 77 white Norwegians and did not bomb a mosque or asylum seekers' home or something.

The right wingers on the other hand are a bit more sensible about it, but they are all waffling on about whether he's mad or not, despite none of them being trained psychiatrists or having met him in person and babbling on about "good" versus "evil".

Lysistrata: You forget that Breivik was in the Norwegian Progress Party for some years before letting his membership lapse. That party (apart from its ambivalent attitude towards EU membership) is quite like UKIP.

I guess that's natural, having a little distance always makes it easier being a bit more flippant with the issue at hand. And I have no illusion that time won't allow this to be a political issue in the future when things settle. But by and large this isn't a political issue for, he is as you say a mass-murderer, extremely hated, and it is and should be considered disrespectful as f... trying to strike a political point with this.

He's such a dude. said...

Well done! If there's anything I cherish more than norwegian gunnuts it's paintings of norwegian gunnuts!
