No, I give up. You'll have to give me clue.

Pants are plural, not singular. Even when there is only one pair of pants.

Usually these illustrations depict someone not freezing anymore, poor marketing.

I second WoaR.
But a picture of a cold man on a pack of thermals reminds me of 'you're never alone with a Strand' ciggie ad.

CD, no clues.

WOAR, yes that's another mistake, but a stupid one rather than a deliberate one.

Anon 22.22, you are closest so far. What suggests to us that he is still freezing, despite thermals?

VFTS, you are getting warm (no pun intended).

Reminds me of the trivago ads where an attractive chick is outdone by an ugly dork who paid less than she did for the same hotel.

The viewer is supposed to empathise with, and therefore copy, the dork rather than the beauty.

Seems counter intuitive to me.

if your nuts are freezing, would you blow into your hands?

Maybe M&S sells gloves with an image of a content man on the packaging, to remind you not to be cheap when shopping for christmas presents.

Why is Bruce Springsteen making Owl noises?

Oh, what was the question again?

...and why is Cesc Fabregas advertising undies? I thought that was a job for Libdem MPs.

GB, interesting but o/t.

D, JP, getting warm.

Kj, warmest so far, so you get the prize.

CP, it's not Fabregas. He only advertised checked things and gas appliances.

Surely, the deliberate mistake is: this bloke is clued up enough to realise it's cold and to put on his thermals, but didn't have the presence of mind to take his gloves with him as well.

However, the packaging has to signal "These thermals help you against the cold" so they need to signal "cold" in some way, which they achieve by not giving their poor model a pair of gloves.

Perhaps he took his gloves off to use his mobile and the wind blew them away.

I'm late to the party,

But I thought is was because the ball was out side the pants.
