"Antelope crashes into mountain biker during race"

"Crashes into" is giving the antelope the benefit of the doubt, to put it mildly. From the awesome video up at The Telegraph, I'd call that "deliberately smashes".

Spotted by Peter Risdon.

My sons and I watched this and it seems to be clear especially in the slow motion the antelope had only one thing on his mind.
I feel the same way when these arseholes in lycra jump a red light or 'ride around them on the pavement or even eschew the roads completely and use pavements as cycle lanes.

I cycled for 18 years leaving a shipyard that was spewing out around six thousand workers all at once a the end of every day shift moving on every conveyance you could imagine and I never felt the need to get off the road an onto the pavements or where skin tight lycra to show I was a 'committed cyclist'.

Rant over. Do we have antelopes in England?

Not many, but maybe we could import some?

Only in zoos. We have far more cyclists than we could ever possibly need though...

I'm getting the impression that your sympathies are with the antelope...

I see it's a hartebeest, gnot a gnu then?

I think Bill has it absolutely correct; the race was taking place in a nature reserve, and the local residents were incensed at the lycra clad ruffians invading their territory, and infringing on their rights.

Maybe they should have paid more attention to the sign down the road?

I've watched it three times now and still can't dissuade my ears from hearing "Holy Cow!" from the "commentator" as the bike-ist gets taken out.

I'm sure he says 'Holy cow' and much like Hugh Grant in Notting Hill with 'whoopadaisy'
It is probably only Afrikaners that still say it.

PC, is it the case that it's out of fashion to say "Holy cow!"? Not sure if I got that memo. What about describing something as cracking, wicked, banging or sick?

Mark Wadsworth said...

... and what's wrong with "Whoopsadaisy"? I'm sure I still say that.

'Holy Cow' is still acceptable as long as it is suffixed by the po-mo-iro 'Batman'
