I haven't done one of these for a month, so here's one that sprang to mind when my wife went all posh on us when deciding which cheese to grate over her spaghetti:
Types of food which sound like anagrams of each other and may even look similar but taste quite different
To get the ball rolling, I submit parmesan/marzipan.
Are you all set?

Food that sounds the same but tastes quite different ?
Banana/vagina
salmon/almond
Getting a bit naughty here.
EK, are you sure that a hairy pie actually is a type of food?
D, good one. Even more fascinating is that German for "almond" is "mandel", which again is nearly an anagram.
JH, don't blame me.
lemon/melon
truite/treat
D, lemon/melon, brilliant. The other ones a bit obscure.
mincemeat/ mince meat
TW, good one. I wonder whether there is a type of bread called "sweet bread"?
there's sour dough
Haricot/Haribo
Swede/Seaweed/Suede
Dolcelatte/Boiled Tatty
SBC
Marathon/Snickers
Opal Fruits/Cif
(nb I may have missed the point)
catinthehat
JP, you seem to have the same problem as EK distinguishing between 'types of food' and 'bodily orifices'.
SBC, good ones.
CITH, yes, way off piste; I'ts Opal Fruits/Starburst but
"Jif/Cif, formerly known as Jif" is possibly a stroke of genius (if that's what you actually meant). I'd forgotten about that one.
You just reminded me:
Margarine/Magritte
:-/
Magherita/Magarita cocktail/pizza, not sure which is the correct spelling for either, but sound the same/taste different.
