Copycat killing?

From the BBC:

A polar bear has mauled a 17-year-old British boy to death in the Arctic and left four other UK tourists badly hurt. A party of 80 mainly 16 to 23-year-olds were on a trip with the British Schools Exploring Society near a glacier on the remote Norwegian island of Svalbard...

I wonder whether politicians and journalists will describe this as the action of a mentally disturbed right-wing extremist.

UPDATE; Chuckles refers us to this article, adding "Pierre Gosselin notes an interesting legal wrinkle. Don't let the cows twig on to this one." Actually, AFAIAA, if you were to shoot a cow in England, that counts as damage to the farmer's property so unless you did in self-defence, you would be in (very mild) trouble.

How lone before the Warmists blame climate change?
Surely an opportunity not to be missed: it's too hot so the bear was displaced/it's too cold so the bear could travel over solid ice. Must be the eeeevil CO2!

Ed P, funny you should mention that.

I was at a zoo a couple of days ago in pretty hot muggy weather and while two of the polar bears were swimming about in the water to keep cool-ish, one of them was having a nice snooze at the side of the pool. So I see no evidence that warm weather bothers them in the slightest.

it's just that they can hunt land animals better when there's snow on the ground for camouflage, but I doubt it makes much difference under water - or how the heck would seals catch fish? And there were seals in the next enclosure and I can vouch they are pretty dark coloured.

"it's just that they hunt land animals"

Surely one of their bear necessities?

Put yourself in direct confrontation and presence of a wild animal and what to those prats at the BBC expect to happen?

Sheesh!

"exploring society" - but everywhere has been explored.

Not so cuddly and cute after all then?

Well, one school is going to have trouble telling the kids to 'save the polar bears' in future.

Svalbard eh?

I'm sure there's a bad taste Panzer Bjorn gag in there but I can't see it.

yeah, but the school need to tell kids to save beers beside this incident and politicians need to take a serious lesson from this issue.New kitchen cabinets

Don't let the cows twig on to this one.

WFW, they don't need to hunt humans though.

D, yup, but it's still 'exploring'.

LI, they is seriously scary, like lions or something.

RLJ, I'm lost. Which joke?

Ch, that is a splendid article.

I heard they were stuck because of unprecedented amounts of ice in the fjord...

Mark, Svalbard is the home of the Panzer Bjorn (armoured bears) in the book/movie The Golden Compass.
