Another one for the home-owner-ists...

One to remember for your potential Father/Mother in Law when they are trying to persuade you to liquidate your stock portfolio and dump it in the UK housing market:

"OK then, how about you guys buy the house, subject to our acceptance, and we'll rent it off you on a 25 year contract, at a 5% baseline yield, adjustable on an annual basis with reference to the Halifax/Nationwide house price index?"

If houses are such a good 25 year investment over stocks why not? Maybe this could form the new basis of some kind of derivative swaps contract between renters and savers, pensioners, the insured, taxpayers and central banks the 'institutional investors'?

If it's good enough for the goose and all that...
