Yes it is good. Do you think LVT has a better chance with Labour than the other two major parties?
I was about to ask the same question as AKH.
The Lib Dems seem more likely to support it but have less power to implement it that other two.
AKH, as long as they are in opposition, yes. Once they get back in to government, it will be politely shelved again (see also: Lib Dem's).
Two points. One, do it the correct way from outset, that is a tax on the imputed rental. It's the right way to do it and if you compromise now you'll find it impossible to change later. If you can do someting right first time, always do so.
Two, you have to tackle income tax, NI and Vat at the same time somehow. These are the most pernicious wealth destroying taxes. Especially if you propose LVT to lefties who, as is there wont, just see LVT as an additional tax. They'd just love to have the excuse to play the double jeopardy envy card on 'rich people living in big houses made to pay twice'.
R, see my reply to AKH.

That's why we have a Chancellor in our Blogger's Cabinet, namely Scott Wright, and I'll leave the fine-tuning of the switch-over to him. A government would have to carefully paint its way of the corner again (making as few enemies along the way), within one term of parliament, knowing full well it will be probably chucked out at the next election.
