Just over 200 years ago, a small country politically allied to a larger country got itself into the financial shit by mismanagement by the government and the bankers, with the result that it was absorbed into the larger country. What was true for Scotland then, could be true for the UK now, with England's role being taken over by the EU.
Of course it will create new jobs because no one has been so stupid before to pay people to do anything so utterly pointless, but even so the benefit of these new jobs is only one side of the equation.

200 years ago? That rules out Scotland, I guess.
The Anschluss of Scotland was 200 years ago. For a hundred years prior to that, it had a separate government but shared a monarch with England.
