Short Lists

Soviet leaders against whom a coup d'état was mounted while they were on holiday at a Black Sea resort

1. Nikita Krushchev
2. Mikhail Gorbachev

DBC Reed aced this one, and submitted his own short list:

Three products giving solace to the working-man which owe(d) their origins to the Land Tax movement.

He's emailed me the answers and if anybody manages to name even one I'll be pleasantly surprised

Monopoly

Yep Monopoly, and possibly the book Progress and Poverty which sold millions in it's day. I expect you're looking for something else though.

Go on then,just for fun!

How about the 'Wizard of Oz'?

Or has that been discussed here?

MikeW, add that to the list of things I didn't know that I didn't know!

Wizard of Oz was about monetary reform, not taxing land values. Yellow Brick road was the gold standard, Dorothy's slippers (silver - not ruby - in the book) represented a silver backed dollar, and the wicked witches were the evil bankers. Some things never change!

I thought this short list was way too abstruse but MW has dropped the broadest hints in the LABELS below (if you ignore Land Value Tax and Russia, the latter of which
stumps me to be honest)

DBC, "Russia" relates to the first list :-)
