I noticed a few weeks ago that there were certain songs on my iPod (they showed up in the list of 'songs' from the main menu, for example and played as normal) which you couldn't access via the list of 'artists' from the main menu because the 'artist' just didn't show up.
I correlated this back to certain albums (the last couple of NOW albums, if truth be told) and the way to fix this appears to be to choose the original song in iTunes on your main computer, click 'get info', untick the box saying 'part of a compilation' and then 'sync' your iPod again. Which is a bit of a grind if you have to go through each individual song on the suspect albums and untick the box each time - there doesn't seem to be a way of telling iTunes that a compilation album is not actually a compilation album, but hey.

The first step, you think, might be to get an iPod?
If you're a Windows user using iTunes only to load music to your iPod then try CopyTrans. There are free and paid-for versions. Obviates the need to "sync" which is just a monster p.i.t.a. It also means Mr Jobs has less of a hold over what you are, and aren't, allowed to listen to.
CopyTrans allows you to use Windows Explorer and to see the iPod as an external hard disk; the rest is drag and drop. Simple and effective, and a rather good tag editor included which'll solve your compilation problem.
JH, I bought it years ago.
FT, I'm an Apple purist nowadays but ta. The drag and drop still seems to work after a fashion, but I don't know if that would've fixed the particular problem.
I've notice that the last three iTunes updates appear to have introduced more bugs and errors than they have purported to fix.
I thought you could select an album and say that it's not a compilation album.
Then again, I spent days getting my music set up right. My favourite feature: removing tracks from shuffle, so the family doesn't inadvertantly get NWA's Straight Outta Compton.
JM, I haven't noticed many changes either way.
JT, aha, now that is useful to know - right click the song, click 'Get info', go to 'Options' and tick 'Skip when shuffling' which I can apply to the songs I don't want to delete but don't want to hear regularly etiehr, as well as the one hundred Xmas hits I have. You can even set the relative volume. Sweet.
Mark, how do you right-click with an Apple?
B, you need a proper Apple mouse then do the following:
System Preferences
Keyboard & Mouse
Mouse
Then turn the top right hand corner of the mouse into 'Secondary button'.
