Try administering a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and honey to the patient. Two or three teaspoons in the morning seem to be sufficient to stop the cough in its tracks. Sometimes a single dose works.
I avoid taking the mixture after about lunchtime because a cough reflex can be quite handy when asleep.
One day such homely advice will be illegal. It may be that it already is.

3 tablespoons of a mix of milk of magnesia and castor oil.
Won't dare cough...
At least you don't snore.

Late last night I slew my wife,
Stretched her on the parquet flooring,
I was loath to take her life,
but I had to stop her snoring.
