From The Metro:
La Meca – Spanish for Mecca – was warned by intelligence officials it was being targeted, after hackers broke into the club’s webpage and posted a video threatening ‘a great war between Spain and the people of Islam’ if the name was not changed...
The nightclub owners yesterday held a press conference with local Muslim leaders, confirming plans to change the venue’s name – and its logo, which features Islamic symbols and minarets...
We all knew this was coming, didn't we? In any rational world, threats of violence by identifiable groups would be treated as a criminal offence and the police would step in, but we are no longer in a rational world. And did the owners of the club really need 'intelligence officials' to tell them that their website had been hacked?
The website informs us that there'll be another press conference tomorrow at 12 noon with the owners of the club and some 'Islamist' spokesmen. Ho hum. Maybe the owners ought to invite Pastor Terry Jones just to even up the numbers?

There's a Mecca bingo in town. Has been for many years.
I wonder when we'll hear 'Eyes down for a full - boom!'
Can't be far off now.
My God! I am never gonna play bingo again - not that I ever do! Don't want to be blown up as I shout "here?"
Second definition: a place of many visitors. Seems we are going to have to rewrite our dictionaries so as not to offend those who are easily offended.
Anna :o]
People think we have it bad in America. Try Europe where the hatred is more open and blatant.
Lots of middle eastern type restaurants springing up all over the place. Tit for tat seems to be in order. Keep your powder dry.
LI & H, they started trying to get the bingo people to change their name ten or fifteen years ago. I'm surprised that there are any left.
IC, hatred I can live with, it's the way the authorities force us to give in to it that bothers me.
HIU, do you have a cunning plan?
Why is everything and everywhere 'holy' in Islamic culture ?
I think that the Pope is wrong in preaching that a Godless society is a dangerous one. In re-asserting Catholicism we risk further Islamic stridency which will have to be backed by equality laws.
It's at this very juncture that western culture ought to be showing the overwhelming scientific evidence which shows religion to be utter nonsense. And also the proof which shows that goodness-can-only-come-through-God to be the insulting gibberish that it is.
In order to transcend the challenges about to descend upon mankind we need to be rid of such restrictive thinking.
Follow ups on a post card to....
Just change the name to La Reconquista.
Electro-Kevin,
I think that the Pope is wrong in preaching that a Godless society is a dangerous one. In re-asserting Catholicism we risk further Islamic stridency which will have to be backed by equality laws.
It's pretty fucking bold for Ratzy to say that, considering that the Catholic church had almost complete control over religion at the time when the Spanish conquistadors were carrying out atrocities in South America.
EK, JT, my thoughts exactly.
FT, "Mecca No!" Genius.
VFTS, also genius.
Thanks for the endorsement, Mark. Though my point was made in a far more convoluted and humourless fashion than is ...
D'oh !
