From S(t)ourbridge News:
Angry resident Caroline Howard said: “The villagers are in uproar. It’s such a stupid place to put affordable houses. We’re not saying we don’t want affordable housing. It’s not nimbyism, it’s the location. It’s absolutely ludicrous. It’s obvious that lane is dangerous now. How do they think they’re going to have more families with cars going down there? We will do everything we can to let people know the majority of residents in Clent* don’t want it there.”
Resident Jane Whallett said: “The Pleck is a local beauty spot that should be protected, not destroyed. The woodland is home to badgers, grass snakes, hedgehogs, bats, owls, as well as buzzards and other smaller birds. It also has a tree preservation order on it.”
Etcetera, etcetera, you get the gist. Just as background, here's the satellite view of Clent from Google Maps:
* The irony being, if they build the promised dozen houses, a majority of 'Clent residents' will probably be living in them.

All of whom, aparently, are more important than human beings. Thusly, we'll build the houses, and evict Jane Whallett (without compensation, obviously) to provide new habitat for the aformentioned creatures.
Over to you, Jane.....
Is that a real map?
I mean there's a place called 'Bell End' ffs!
HH, or we could offer Jane W a home-swap with one of the families that would like to move there, and just build 11 houses.
Anon, well spotted!! PS, it is a real map, which is why I added the link to Google Maps.
Anon, Mark:
"Bell End" is quite special, but I'm rather more fond of the superbly-named "Knights in the Bottom" near Weymouth. It's at SY634812 on your handy OS map.
Anon, I did some extensive Fun Online Polling on Britain's daftest double-barrelled place name two years ago and the winner was Lickey End.
I live in high wycombe, bucks.
I mention that as the area has some spiffy countryside and *every* fucking week i hear the same story as above in the local rag about "somewhere" in my locality.
Needless to say i pay alot of money for a small shoebox, whilst these wankers living in their 30-40 year old 4 bedroom houses refuse to have more housing built.
Anon in High Wycombe, may I quote from the Great Book of NIMBYism, Chapter 1:
"Do you want to concrete over the South East? What about food security? Britain is a crowded island, and your particular shoebox sounds particularly crowded so that proves it. And if they build a bigger house for you, what about pressure on local services and all the extra traffic? That's not good for the environment! Typical bloody youngster, only thinking of yourself and not the future of this once great country."
This may look like a classic case of nimbyism, but the land in question is owned by the Parish Council, who seem to have taken it upon themselves to develop it without consulting the people of the parish. If "the community" own a piece of land, then, AFAICS "the community" get to decide what happens to it. Having a development steamrollered through by a minority is just as bad as having one stopped by a minority.
B, so the land 'belongs' to the Parish Council, i.e. to the people who live there. And once the houses are built, and people move in, do they not live there too?
Yes, but the land belongs to the people who live there now, and thus they should all have a say in what happens to it. The people who might live there in the future have no say in the matter. That's like me telling someone what colour to paint their front door on the grounds that I might want to buy their house one day.
Oh, and this is an excellent example of how Planners don't plan. A planned development would be on farmland close to the main road, not on an area of woodland down a narrow lane.
Either the cumunity own the land or the council do.
Seeing as no-one in the comunity paid a penny for the land, they can fuck of and let me have a house.
They always start by saying
"and we are not being NIMBY's here!"
I always respond by saying:
"If you look through the panorama of history you will see that ALL house prices in the area will rise if you build and get the infrfastructure funding. Do you not want a better life?"
