Toilet/Burka/France Tomfoolery

Apparently, the management of a shopping centre called The Exchange in Rochdale, Greater Manchester has gone completely mental and installed two of those horrible squat toilet thingies "after attending a cultural awareness course run by a local Muslim community activist"*.

The only time I've ever experienced one of these was on holiday in Normandy, so to me they are French as much as Islamic. Which leads me on to my next thought - if the French are going to try and hold back the tide of Islamism by banning the burka, are they now going replace all those horrible squat toilets with proper modern ones? That would be nice.

At least I've learned something new from that Daily Mail article, first link above, Thomas Crapper was in fact never knighted, so I shall have to stop referring to him as Sir Thomas Crapper.

How does a shopping centre attend a cultural awareness course?

So as the population remorselessly ages, we introduce squat toilets.

It's one way to remind granny that she's been made a stranger in her own land.

I can only suppose that it's a brilliant undercover BNP idea.

R, I feared somebody would say that. I have inserted the missing words to make it clear.

D, these people are their own worst enemies.

So we have a little figure of a lady in a dress for the female loos, a little figure of a man in trousers for the gents, and for the muslim toilets they'll have...what?

JM, how about using those Danish cartoons?

C, indeedy. The article doesn't say whether they will be proper Koran-compliant toilets with no toilet paper and a jug of water instead.

"At that time Islam were far more advanced than Europe in terms of science and Hygiene." Well of course, they'd just taken over bits of Persian and Byzantine Civilisation.

Apart from the fact that this is just another business wasting their shareholders money by sending their staff on pointless courses (Ghulam Rasul Shahzad is probably in the same club as the MD), some non-Asians might actually prefer to use the "Nile pan" especially if they are the types that currently "hover" over the standard design for fear of catching something nasty from the seat.

Anti, D, you are going to have to sort this out between yourselves :-)

B, there is absolutely nothing on their website to suggest that it is privately owned, so I can only assume it is owned by the council or similar.

Ok, Mark, I will rephrase: "Apart from the fact that this is just another local authority wasting their taxpayers money by sending their staff on pointless courses (Ghulam Rasul Shahzad is probably in the same club as the Chief Executive),.....
