"outside the Asda store in Stenhousemuir" - see, it's not called "Stenhousemuirnil".
USB sticks? No-one working in the NHS should have these. It's a failure if you're having to push things around the company on USB sticks.
I know why USB sticks happen because I've seen it a few times. In good, responsive companies you can go to the computer guys, tell them you need a shared file area and he'll set you one up within an hour.
What happens in large, useless bureaucracies like the NHS is someone has to fill out forms in triplicate, get their manager and his manager to approve it before it gets passed to someone in IT who has a 48 hour service level agreement which means that it always takes nearly 2 days.
End result? To get things done people bypass the useless process and share data via USB sticks.
Sneaker-Net.
JT here is right - when blockages occur, staff take other measures. To think we're in there somewhere.
JT is right.
I also liked "the memory stick is being returned".... after a few copies have been made, natch.
Another reason not to trust the State with your data, as if we needed more persuading.
