From The Metro:
Schoolchildren could face annual fitness tests under plans laid out by the Government's [morbidly obese] chief medical officer.
Sir Liam Donaldson wants pupils to undergo "bleep tests" - similar to schemes already running in California and Texas - to help increase fitness levels. The checks would reduce the risk of illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes, keep weight in check and improve mental health, he said.
Parents would be sent letters detailing their child's fitness with the aim of getting families involved in improving health. Around the world, physical fitness among children is declining by 4.3% per decade. In England, the rate of decline is 7% to 9%, regardless of obesity levels...

Fable for our time.
My youngest daughter, now at university, whilst still at school, rode horses every weekend and did power-lifting on Fridays, was tested along with her whole year group in our county for fitness.
Out of all children, male and female, she was the second fittest. By no means is she skinny or underweight.
This tells you lots of things.
Among them what the fuck are all the blokes doing nowadays such that a not very big at all girl is fitter than all but one of them. Two, being well covered is not the same as being unfit. Three being able to cook and eat a meal and enjoy proper food as well as sitting down at a table with your family to eat it must be A Good Thing, four....oh what the Hell. Sod 'em all.
L, she was second fittest in the whole country? Now that is cool! To be fair, the article says that you can be non-overweight and unfit as well (well, duh...).

Lola, being fit has got sod all to do with being under weight, and as I understand it, is more to do with heart rate during and following exercise.
If you are fit, you are less likely to be a porker, but it doesn't necessarily follow that you won't be a porker or that you will be a skinny little thing.
Rugby players?
Sumo wrestlers?
Etc.
When I was at school under Maggie/Major PE teachers used to make us do these 'bleep tests'.
Nothing really new here, just 'announcements'.
FB, true, but that's not the point. Nulab haven't just declared war on size-zero people and fat people, they've declared war on normal-weight-but-not-overly-fit people as well.
SL, is it?
Anyways, when I read my children's school reports they get a pat on the head or a gold star if they get As and Bs in proper subjects and then two extra gold stars and big hugs if they get a bottom grade for Physical Education.
So far only one of my four children has ever scored anything but a bottom grade for Phys Ed. And they are all thin as rakes and fit as fiddles.
Hah! Even when hospitalised with endocarditis I was told by the medics that I'd be alright since I was a 'fit bloke'. Comparatively. Bloody Hell! Just what did that say about the other patients?
After years of socialist educationalists making sure that no kid can "lose" at sport because the poor little dear might turn into a raging psychopath with "ishoos", can we take it as read that bleep tests will be conducted in absolute secrecy, with no results being released to anyone, so that unfit kids won't feel "marginalised"?
The only thing more cruel than the 'bleep test' is being forced to live through a Labour government.
