Either you're a pessimistic lot or I'm a cock eyed optimist - fifty per cent of those who took part in last week's Fun Online Poll replied 'Yes' to the question "Will the UK government lose its AAA credit rating in the foreseeable future?", with a further 33% voting 'Possibly' and only 18% voting 'No' (differences due to rounding). I voted 'No', in case you're wondering.
-------------------------------
Wonkotsane over at Bloggers4UKIP was not happy with UKIP's 'Restoring Britishness' policy (Part 1 and Part 2).
One of the key lines of his argument is this:
"... most people in England identify themselves as English.... The British establishment has spent the last 300 years trying to abolish the English identity and nearly succeeded in doing so. As for tolerance of the Irish - tolerance and respect for national identities? Don't make me laugh! England has been a unified nation since 927AD, 780 years longer than the British union. Where's the respect for the thousand years of history and English identity in this policy?"
Which is an interesting way of looking at it - so that's the topic of this week's Fun Online Poll.

Half of my family are English and Welsh and half are Scots. The fact that I happen to have been born south of the border rather than north is a function of the place where my parents happened to have found work.
So I was born in England, and consider myself British.
Well, I was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, Britain, Europe, Earth...
My nationality Well my passport has the word Britain on it so I'll go for British.
My identity? That's something completely different to any of the above.
DS, you are perfectly entitled to choose "None of the above".
I voted 'no' as the bond markets have already priced us a AA
Good to see Englishness making a comeback.
