Cultural Differences

From an Australian newspaper, The Herald:

Wybong residents' anger over fatal smash

ANGRY Wybong residents say that planning authorities ignored years of warnings that the narrow, winding Wybong Road would not support heavy vehicle traffic from the Mangoola mine at Anvil Hill...

If you have a few seconds to spare, first visualise a "narrow, winding... road"... and then follow this link.

Some of those go on for a hundred miles or so.

It is common practice it seems. In Gippsland the roads have basically been handed over to the timber firms. You have to meet a huge timber truck coming the other way to understand how things are.

the same goes for road maintainance. Roads solely for civilians get far less care.

Maybe the 'winding' bit is out of shot?

Yes, that must be the answer...

Hint for Auddie readers: This is a winding road.
