Lib Dem fun

There's an article on the BBC about Frank Field and Nicholas Soames calling for reductions in immigration to the UK, which is fair enough. Labour and Tory official policy is just to waffle on a bit about a points-based system, yadda yadda, but I like the Lib Dems' policy best - it's clearly delusional. It manages to be naive, cuddly and Stalinist all at the same time:

The Lib Dems say they would ensure migrants were directed to parts of the country where they are most needed, where they will be welcomed and there are the resources to accommodate them.

I believe that "parts of the country where they are most needed, where they will be welcomed and there are the resources to accommodate them." translates as "places where the Lib Dems are uncompetitive anyway"

Or maybe just a place they can subvert the voting process (you know, like back home here or here) and give the LibDems a chance to top the poll.

U, or even closer to home...

And then what? Ensure they are restricted to those areas?

Are we going to fit them with giant versions of those pet collars that deliver electric shocks once the pet wanders out of the designated zone?

Bonkers. Utterly bonkers...

JM, exactly, that was the "naive" and "Stalinist" bases covered, but all wrapped up in "cuddly".

Perhaps it's a cunning ploy: LibDem person to wannabe immigrant "Our policy is to place you somewhere you will be welcomed. Unfortunately everywhere in Britain loathes people for your country, so you'll have to try elsewhere, sorry".
